Vans Vault x Ignored Prayers — Old Skool
Creative Direction, Footwear Design, Apparel, Campaign, Packaging and Visual System
This project reinterprets the Vans Old Skool through the lens of Ignored Prayers, translating the brand’s mythology into footwear. The design centers on the mycelium pattern, a visual language inspired by underground networks of communication where signals travel quietly, ideas connect invisibly, and systems evolve without hierarchy.
The upper combines white suede and natural canvas, with the canvas 3D printed in Ignored Prayers’ neon yellow mycelium pattern. Narrative details are embedded throughout the shoe. The heels are embossed “Ignored” and “Prayers,” while coordinates stamped into the sidewalls reference homes in Los Angeles and New York City, grounding the project in the geography that shaped it. The tongue features debossed Another Dimension artwork, extending the symbolic language of the brand into the construction of the shoe itself.
The release is packaged in a custom co-branded Vans Vault box finished with holographic mycelium artwork. Each pair includes three lace options: black, neon yellow, and white laces printed with a repeating mushroom pattern, allowing the wearer to shift the visual tone of the piece.
Accompanying tees expand the visual language of the project, featuring the Ignored Prayers pill icon and Another Dimension artwork. A distorted smiley emerges from a Vans footprint layered with the mycelium pattern, translating the footwear narrative into graphic form.
The campaign was shot on vintage Hi-8 cameras to capture a raw, analog texture that reflects the project’s themes of underground signal and distortion. The film was edited in collaboration with Rigel Kilston of Splash Studios and features Rata as the central figure moving through the visual world of the project.
