Liberaiders — Cuba Capsule

Creative Direction · Illustration · Textile Design · Cultural Storytelling

When long-time friends and industry veterans Mei Yong and Bill Hebner—two legends I’ve admired for years—joined forces to create Liberaiders, I knew it would become something special. Early on, they invited me to collaborate on one of the brand’s first collections: a visual homage to Cuba and its revolutionary spirit.

For this capsule, I created two key artworks: a Che Guevara–inspired portrait rendered in layered halftones, and a “Viva La Revolución” poster treatment referencing vintage propaganda design. I also developed the all-over repeat pattern for a rayon short-sleeve woven shirt, combining hand-drawn tropical and political motifs into a fluid, narrative textile print.

The collection was photographed by Mei on location in Cuba, capturing the energy and authenticity that define Liberaiders’ ethos—bridging cultural storytelling, travel, and global perspective.
