Ignored Colours — Zine Series

Art Direction, Design & Collaboration

Beginning in 2018, I started collaborating with my good friend Devin Troy Strother — fine artist and publisher — on a zine series titled Ignored Colours, a play on our respective publishing imprints, Ignored Prayers and Coloured Publishing.

The collaboration emerged organically while sharing a studio space, spending long days making art, talking about race, culture, and identity — often through an irreverent, humorous lens. The throughline of the series is our exploration of race and racism in contemporary society, using mixed media, collage, photography, and satire to spark dialogue and laughter in equal measure.

Each issue follows a unique format: we take turns designing spreads back-to-back, never labeling who created what — leaving authorship intentionally ambiguous and open to interpretation.

The first issue, IC1, was a black-and-white photocopy zine made at a local Staples. Each cover was hand-decorated with spray paint, markers, and googly eyes, making every copy unique. It debuted at Printed Matter’s LA Art Book Fair, followed by IC2 and IC3 in full color, which premiered at NYABF and LAABF respectively.

Ignored Colours 4 is currently in development.
